Mermaid Doll

I made a doll of the main mermaid character in my book, Forbidden Sea. Those of you who have read the book know that the picture the artist created for the cover of the book (though quite gorgeous) does not fit the description of what she looks like in the book. I thought it would be fun to create a doll of what I think she looks like and take it with me when I do signings. Unfortunately, photographing her is difficult because of the shiny dark green skin I used. It looks odd with a flash. She is much more beautiful than the photo makes her look. As soon as it stops snowing and some sunshine decides to come out, I'll get a better photo of her to share.
And yes, I braided every one of those green braids by hand, with a gold bead attached to the end of each one. It took more time to created the hair than it did to create all the rest of her together.

Catching Fireflies Necklace

You would not believe what Iwent through to create a miniature bottle full of fireflies that actually looked like a bottle full of fireflies! Not sure if I pulled it off exactly but this was the best final product by far. I must have thrown out at least half a dozen failed attempts.

This little necklace has a tiny genie sitting on some pillows in her bottle. It looks really good in real life, but is difficult to photograph in a way that you can see all of the genie. This is the best I could do. If you look carefully you can see her peeking out. You can't see them in the picture but she has little pointed shoes and a small lantern at her feet.

Romantic Interlude

Windwaithe Mermaid Necklace

So after having to give away my last mermaid necklace in a contest, I decided I wanted one of my own. This one looks exactly like the mermaid in my story, only much tinier.

I finished my ghost marionette for Halloween this year. It's taken me quite a while but she is all done. I couldn't posted pictures of the finished project before Halloween because she was on display at the library. The kids loved her. We have a joke at our library that the display with the most fingerprints wins as the most popular. I had to wipe down the glass of the display cabinet at least two or three times a day, so I think the little ghost won. I made her out of glow in the dark clay so when she is under a black light she glows (as seen in the picture).
She turned out even better than I expected. I can't wait to try her out in a puppet show for Halloween next year!
